Are You Telling Me That You Can Actually Eat Chia Seed?

When most of us were first introduced to Chia seed, it was a far cry from a part of our diets.  The stupid little plant that made them famous is usually the first image that comes to mind when you talk of this little wonder.  Just like your childhood, it is time to put that image behind you and understand what the Chia seed can do for you as an adult.

Organic Chia seeds have been around for quite some time.  They were actually a standard in the diet of the Mayan and Aztec Indians.  Over time, this seed has been all but forgotten, but recent years have seen a revival due to research and the discovery of the many health benefits that this little seed possesses.  After all, if the Indians were eating it all of the time, there must have been a reason why.

What research has discovered is that this little marvel has plenty of health benefits that nutritionists have been touting for years.  It is rich in fiber, loaded with Omega 3 Fatty Acids, helps with diabetes and cholesterol levels and actually can be used for a prolonged source of energy.  Kiss the Red Bull sugar rush goodbye, all you need is a handful of white Chia seeds and you are in business.

If you were one of the kids that were lucky enough to experience the gift of a Chia Pet, you probably noticed that the seeds actually grew dramatically when they were placed in water.  The fact is that they actually grow to about 9 times their regular size once they are exposed to a moist source.  This is important for several reasons when using Chia seed as a diet aid.

If the seed is growing to that size, it must be able to retain water, right?  That being the case, they are a great way to make sure that your body stays hydrated all the time.  If you are consuming organic Chia seeds, your body will now have the capability to hold onto the water source instead of having it just run through your body.

This little fact is probably why the ancient Indians used this seed as one of their primary sources of nutrition when they went on their long conquests.  They could go days between water sources without the threat of dehydration.  When you think of this incredible benefit, it is a shame that modern man was not more aware of this marvel earlier.

The Chia seed is a marvel, it really is as simple as that.  It is loaded with benefits that have been hidden from man for far too long.  We spend all of those years marketing this incredible source of nutrition as a pet in a clay pot when it should have been researched and developed as a source of nutrition for everyone.  Better late than never!  For a modern day miracle that has been around for centuries, add the Chia seed to your diet and you are sure to be pleased with the results.
